You can catch Ryan Durkin Tuesday night at the Enormous Room OR Saturday at a face-melting edition of Basstown, featuring DJ Die Young, DJ Ghostdad, Volvox and Kingdom from NYC!
The night I met Ryan Durkin started with bootleg-grade vodka and ended with something called a Bad Babysitter. Needless to say, I didn’t take notes on our conversation.
Luckily, we got a second chance to catch up with the N.H.-born DJ this week. Ryan, who was one of the organizers behind the abortive Fuzzy Coconuts Charles River rave, has been looping beats for rapper Black Element and is starting to make a name for himself in Boston’s electro/dance community.
We talked to Ryan about searching for hip-hop in New Hampshire and laying down tracks in Jamaica Plain. Samples and party info after the jump.

Oh HELL YESSSS!!!! We couldn’t wait another week…too many D-R-O-P-S!
We’ve been watching Grand in Somerville with growing interest. The store sells a hand-curated offering of clothing, furniture and accessories.
Grand launched their webstore last week and if you can’t make it out to Somerville, you can still browse a huge selection of their products online.
The store has also been taking part in some cool events, and recently held a movie showing as part of the Bicycle Film Festival.
Local artist Chris Piascik will be showcasing a collection of his paintings at Grand for the next several weeks. Scheming Against Myself will open on Friday night, 6-9 p.m. at the store.
You can check out some stuff from the Grand webstore below.

Boston artist Katrina Majkut says she’s been a “green” person her whole life.
When she was 8, Majkut wrote a book report about deforestation for fun. Her parents grew food in a huge vegetable garden outside the house and organized yard sales so their old junk wouldn’t wind up in the trash.
“I was always a very crafty kid and I had to use what was around me,” Majkut says.
It comes as no surprise, then, that the 26-year-old’s latest installation is a testament to recycling.

Last week, Nick White told That Hottness that Tilly and the Wall’s live act is “at the peak of what it’s ever been.” The five-some from Omaha proved the keyboardist’s words in their electric set at the Paradise on Thursday night.
White and company walked onto the balloon-covered stage and immediately got the Boston crowd moving. The band members clapped, stomped and rocked their way through an energetic performance, accompanied by great sound and some bold lighting. Pictures and video after the break.

The last thing I expected to see at an event intended to celebrate the underdog of mythological creatures was a crowd of people waiting to get in. I guess it goes to show that you should never underestimate the allure of ice cream - or ice cream people - on a hot summer evening.
Artist and ice-cream-person enthusiast Brian Butler understands just that, and as the mastermind behind IceCreamPeople.org, he was host to the project’s first public event Monday night at the Milky Way in Jamaica Plain.

Allston streetwear shoppers will have a new option available this month following the opening of At The Buzzer, a consignment shop and cap retailer. The store is located at the top of Harvard Avenue and offers a wide variety of both second-hand and deadstock shoes, as well as a selection of caps from New Era.
TH caught up with the managing partner of the store, J, a day before the grand opening. We found him vacuum-sealing a pair of Jordans behind the counter. He talked with us about the Boston scene and his vision for the business.
Photo gallery and interview after the jump.
